Sukat äidille. Sekoitus sidewindereitä ja snickettejä. Suunnilleen kaikki meni pieleen mikä voi, mutta kyllä näistä silti pidettävät tuli.

Socks for my mother, mixing sidewinders with Snickets. I screwed approx. everything up that's possible to still keep the socks wearable...
Olifantti ystäville. Tästä en olis halunnut luopua ollenkaan, tuli niin söpö. Hyvään kotiin pääsi kuitenkin/Elefante for frieds. I didn't want to let it go, it's so cute. But well, it's got a good home now.
Pinkku ystäville. Myös ihan ok, vaikkakin nokka on vähän turhan paksusta langasta.. / Pasha-the-penguin for friends. Also pretty ok, although the peek is made of yarn little too heavy weighted ..
Tupakkahanskat ystävälle, säädetty New Foundland Mitts-eistä. Pinnasta tuli ihanan elävä!/ Mitts for a friend who smokes, based on New Foundland Mitts. The surface is so lovely living, I'm planning to make another pair in the future!

Lisäksi isälle ja veljelle pipot, jotka esittelin jo aiemmin.

Sidewinders II

Tuon otsikon voi siis ymmärtää joko niin että nyt niitä on kaksi - tai niin että toinen pari on tulossa. Kumpikin tapa on oikea:

You can understand the title as in: now there are two of them to make a pair or as in: now there is a second pair of them coming. Both ways are right.

1. Sidewinders:
*lanka/yarn: Opal Herbstmelodie.
*puikot/needles: Rödel 2,5mm bambu pyörö/circular bamboo
*tunnelma: ihastunut/love them

Toisetkin ovat jo hyvällä mallilla - eka sukka on jo silmukoimista vaille valmis-, vaikka mallineuleen sijoittelu tuottaa hiukan harmaita hiuksia, kuten myös kahdella pyöröllä (kuten Maia viksusti opastaa) neulominen..

The second pair is on its way - the first sock only needs to be crafted together - although I'm having some trouble getting the aran pattern on it's place, as well as with the changes needed to knit them with two circulars (which Maia cleverly invented)...


Toinen matkailemaan päässyt projekti eli sukat vanhan, jostain läpyskästä kopioidun Hüttensocke-mallin mukaan on vähän jäissä, kirjoneule ei jotenkin innosta. Ja kantapää pitäis tehdä uusiksi, siitä tuli reikäinen kun sekin tehdään kahdella värillä.

The second pair of socks which got to travel to the Alps (the Hüttensocke-socks from an old-ish German instruction booklet) is marinating.. the fair isle still isn't quite my thing... and I need to frog and re-do the heel since it's full of holes due to the fair isle in it...


Ilmoittauduin neulomaan saksalaista mysteeri-huivia Secret of Chrysopolis. Neulominen käynnistyy syyskuun lopulla. Ohje ilmestyy kyllä englanniksikin jos kiinnostaa lähteä mukaan. Ja koska sopivaa pitsilankaa ei löytynyt kaapista niin täytyi tilata Evillan 6/1 ja 8/1 paksuuksia Wollsucht:ista. Ja koska niillä oli Jitterbugia niin täytyihän sitäkin ottaa mukaan ihan vaan postikulujen tasaamiseksi vyyhtien kesken. Ööh.

I'm in the German mystery shawl group Secret of Chrysopolis which starts in the end of September. The pattern will be published in English as well if you're interested but can't speak/read German. And since I didn't have any lace yarn in my stash I needed to make some shopping in Wollsucht. Like Evilla 6/1 and 8/1 lace yarns. They also sell some colors of Jitterbug so I needed to buy one just to make sure that the lace yarns don't get too expensive because of the shipping fees.. Well yeah...

Lisää lomailua - heading for holiday

Ensimmäinen joululahja on valmis. Esittelen ehkä jo ennen joulua. Tai sitten vasta joulun jälkeen... Kuten otsikko lupaa lähden lomailemaan, tällä kertaa 10 päivän alppivaellukselle!! Kovin montaa ja painavaa kutomusta ei rinkaan mahdu, mutta yhteensä vähintään 20 tunnin junamatkoja ajatellen muutamat sukat kyllä. Yhdet kirjoneuleiset (omaa sävellystä vanhan saksalaisen ohjeen mukaan) ja seuraavat sidewindersit, joihin tulee omaa kivaa päälle, saas nähdä onnistuuko...

First Christmas present is finished. Maybe I'll introduce it after Xmas, maybe before. As the title says I'm heading for holiday, 10 days of trekking in the Alps! So not too much too heavy knitting in my backpack. But I'm going to sit some 20 hours in train (only, if I'm lucky, there are also some warnings about strikes for trains..) so I'm going to take some socks to knit with me. One pair of fair isle (modified from old German huettensocke-model) and next sidewinders, with some extras on top, let's see whether I'll succeed with them...

ETA: Ai niin, ensimmäiset Sidewindersit on valmiit ja sopii! Kuvia loman jälkeen. Forgot to say, the first Sidewinders are ready and rocking! Pics after holiday.

Takin yksityiskohdat - details of cardigan

Nonniin, tässäpä kuvia iloksenne ja yksityiskohtia (ystävällisesti jättäkää huomiotta sotkuinen olohuoneemme..):

Lanka: GGH:n Java, värit 36 (vaalean vihreä) ja 24 (tumman vihreä).
Kulutus: 36: 590g, 24: 90 g yhteensä siis 680g. Lankaa oli varattuna 13+3 kerää, eli n. 120 g on jäljellä huppua varten. Sen kulutukseksi oon arvioinut n. 110 g eli jännäksi menee...

Puikot: Addin Basic Concept 80cm pyöröt: 3,5mm (resorit), 4mm (yläselkä), 4,5mm (alaselkä ja hihat).



So, a couple of pics and details (please ignore messy living room..):

Yarn: Java by GGH, colors 36 (light green) and 24 (dark green).
Yardage: 36: 590 g, 24: 90g, together 680g. I had altogether 13+3 balls, so now I havesome 120g for the hood. Since I calculated I need for it some 110, it's going to exciting...

Needles: Addi Basic Concept circular 80cm: 3,5mm (ribbings), 4mm (upper back+front), 4,5 (lower back and front).



Malli: oma. Tyyliä koottu erilaisista lähteistä, mm. Ullan Kemijoki-paidasta ja (etenkin oppi raglan-hihoihin) Knittyn avast-takista. Miesten malleja kumpikin, mutta Hanin tyyliin ei pitsitakit käy, sporttisempi piti olla. Lisäksi Knittyn Carolyn oli apuna. Mitat otettiin kuitenkin Hanin vanhasta lempparitakista, ja istuva siitä tulikin. Toki 4o4n ribbi on armollista ja vetää kokoon ja joustaa missä pitää. Hihoista tuli ylipitkät ekan pesun jälkeen, täytyy pestä uudelleen ja katsoa saako ne aseteltua lyhyemmiksi. Jos ei onnistu niin sitten poikkaistaan ja tehdään uusi resori lyhemmälle hihalle.



Pattern: my own. I collected inspiration from several sources, including Kemijoki-cardi in Ulla and (especially the raglan sleeves) Avast-cardi in Knitty. Both are models for men, but G's style isn't someting for lace. So the cardi needed to be more to the sporty direction. Also Caloryn in Knitty offered it's help to me. The measures are the same as in G's old favorite cardi/jacket, and the new one turned out fitting very well. 4k4p-ribbing is merciful though, stretchy here, pulling together there. The sleeves are way too long (after the first washing), so I might need to fix them if I can't block them shorter after next wash.



Tyytyväisyysasteet:

Tekijän 8/10. Osasin tehdä takin ihan itte! Ja siitä tuli hyvä! Mutta kyllähän pikku fiksauksia sinne tänne tulis tehtyä jos takkia tuon kokemuksen jälkeen tekis. No onneksi kaapissa on langat omaan takkiin (sama lanka, eri väri), jospa siitä tuli noissa suhteissa täydellisempi. Koska suunnittelen palmikoita, täytynee kulutuksen kanssa olla tosi tarkkana että riittää, ja niissähän riittää mahdollisuuksia mokailuun muutenkin :)

Kantajan: 8.5/10. Huppu tarvitaan ja hihat on pitkät mutta muuten tuntuu täyttävän odotukset. Ja että se on itse neulottu ei ainakaan pahenna asiaa.



Degrees of satisfaction:

Maker: 8/10. I made it all by myself! and it became pretty good! But there are some small things I'd make some other way if I made it now with ALL the Experiences I just collected (so I can say I learned something on the way). Luckily I have some more of this yarn in my stash (different color) for my own cardi-to-be. And since it's going to make some moderations to it anyway, it's going to be a whole new experience.

Receiver: 8.5/10. Its needs a hood and the sleeves are too long, but otherwise it seems to be fine. And it being hand-made doesn't make it worse.




Välityöksi ennen takin aloittamista pääsivät Sidewinders-sukat, ihastuttavat ja hyvin istuvat sivuttain neulottavat. Nonalle suuri kiitos ohjeesta! Ensimmäinen sukka on valmis. Neuloessa pelkäsin että paksu pohkeeni ei mahtuisi sukkaan lainkaan, mutta valmiina ne ovat "vain" hyvin istuvat eivätkä edes kiristä. Ohjeessa käskettiin nauttimaan suklaata, mutta koska sitä ei kaapista löytynyt, täytyi tyytyä kuvaan päässeeseen mangoon.

Before starting a new cardigan, I found the Sidewinders, fabulous and well fitting sideways-socks. Nona, Thank You for this lovely and amazing pattern! Only the first one is ready and I know I'm going to use the pattern again (also after the secon one :). While knitting I was afraid that the sock was turning out too snug, but it's just Well Fitting! And since I didn't have any chocolate, I had some mango keeping my nerves calmed. There was even some left after finishing the sock, as you can see.
