Helmikuista - about February

Ei blogissa  nyt sentään ihan takapakkia mennä vaikka blogipäivitys polkeekin paikallaan.. Parin viime kuun aikana valmistui parit sukat mm. Tessin ystävällisellä avustuksella - hän nimittäin diilasi kappaleeni Haaviston kirjasta Sata kansanomaista kuviokudinmallia. Eiväthän nämä sukat ehtineetkään olla tilausjonossa kuin vuoden ja nähdä kaksi esiversiota... tänään illalla sovituksen jälkeen tiedän tuliko sopivat.

Well we're not quite going backwards although the speed of updating isn't very fast... In the last couple of months I've been mainly doing socks - a pair of them including very kind help from Tess  to get my copy of the book by Haavisto called "Sata kansanomaista kuviokudinmallia"  - one hundred traditional (finnish)  fair isle patterns. These socks had been queuing for almost a year (and there were also two pre-versions of them) now but finally tonight I'll know whether they fit.

Taustakuvalla on sen verran osuutta asiaan että noissa maisemissa aloiteltiin sukkien ekaa versiota, joka päätyi jäähylle kantapääongelmista johtuen.. 

The puzzle on the background has something to do with the socks: I started the first version of the socks with that amazing view, but they're hibernating since -  there were some trouble with the first heel..

Sukkien kakkosversio syntyi Ullan pikkulintusukkien mallilla, mutta niistä tuli liian isot saajalle joten päätyivät Hanin käyttöön (ei yhtään pistänyt hanttiin kun kysyin että haluaisiko :) Molemmissa sukkapareissa lankana Schachenmayrin Microa n. 70-75 g ja 2,5 pyöröllä.

The beta version of the socks was done with the "birdy"-pattern from Ulla, but they're too large for the receipient. G didn't mind at all when I asked whether she'd like to have them :) Both pairs of socks are made of Schachenmayr's Micro-yarn (about 70-75 g a pair), with 2.5 mm circular needle.

Otsikkoon: viime viikolla löi Tuin kautta tielle sattunut ohje [ravelry] halolla päähän, eli se täytyi aloittaa samalta istumalta vuoden verran täydellistä ohjetta odotelleista langoista. Eli Elizabeth Zimmermannin kutojan almanakasta helmikuun vauvanuttu aikuisen koossa. Kutomistahti on ollut suorastaan ennennäkemätöntä näillä kulmilla, nyt on vartalo-osa tehtynä ja hihojen kimppuun pääsin tänä aamuna. 

About the title: last week I read about Tui's new project and had to start my own right away! The yarn had been waiting for the perfect pattern for a year anyway. Elizabeth Zimmermann's February sweater in Lady size [ravelry]. I've never knit this frantically, I'm now done with the body and started the sleaves this morning.

Luin juuri Magknitsin lopettaneen toimintansa. Samalla myös lehden serveritilasta on luovuttu, mikä tarkoittaa sitä että ensialkuun Magknitsin ohjeet eivät ole saatavilla. Osa ohjeista löytyy google-cachesta (eli googleta ohjetta ja ota välimuistin versio) kuvattomina. Myös archive.org:ista löytyy kuvattomat kopiot ohjeista. Archive.orgin hakuun tarvitaan alkuperäisen sivun osoite.

I just found out that Magknits is gone. Also their server space is gone, which means that the patterns are momentarily unavailable. Some of the patterns can be found cached by Google (after googling (?) the pattern just take the cache-version and not the original page), without original pictures and charts, though. You can also found copies of the patterns at archive.org, without pics also. For a search at archive.org you need the original address of the page you are looking for.

On täällä neulottukin, Laminaria valmistui juuri (on vielä pingoittumassa, lisään kuvan illalla) ja hyshys-juttu pikkusiskolle pääsi hyppäämään puikoille.


I've also been knitting, Laminaria is blocking (so picture will follow in the evening) and I started something secretive for my sister.

Socks for my mother, mixing sidewinders with Snickets. I screwed approx. everything up that's possible to still keep the socks wearable...
Olifantti ystäville. Tästä en olis halunnut luopua ollenkaan, tuli niin söpö. Hyvään kotiin pääsi kuitenkin/Elefante for frieds. I didn't want to let it go, it's so cute. But well, it's got a good home now.
Pinkku ystäville. Myös ihan ok, vaikkakin nokka on vähän turhan paksusta langasta.. / Pasha-the-penguin for friends. Also pretty ok, although the peek is made of yarn little too heavy weighted ..
Tupakkahanskat ystävälle, säädetty New Foundland Mitts-eistä. Pinnasta tuli ihanan elävä!/ Mitts for a friend who smokes, based on New Foundland Mitts. The surface is so lovely living, I'm planning to make another pair in the future!

Lisäksi isälle ja veljelle pipot, jotka esittelin jo aiemmin.

I also gave hats for my brother and dad, which I already presented.

Paljastuspostia - Revealing post

Perjantaina ehdin kuin ehdinkin postiin hakemaan viimeisen SNY-pakettini! Syksyn ajan minua on paketein ilahduttanut lankavuoren Minna. Tällä kertaa paketista löytyi kaksi kerää norjalaista Gjestalin Cortina Exclusive:a, kerä Fritidsgarn:ia, silmukkamerkkejä (huomasin juuri etteivät näy kuvassa..), jotka kuulemma ovat peräisin lankavarastosta. Kauniin keijukortin, teen ja pääkallosalmiakin lisäksi paketista löytyi puolukkasaippuaa (testattu ja hyväksi todettu) sekä kauniit, pehmeät ja hyvin istuvat punaiset pitsisukat! Huippua! ISO KIITOS Minna, olet värittänyt syksyni tosi kauniiksi!

On Friday I had some time to hurry to the post and pick up the last parcel my Finnish Secret Pal. Minna (writing her blog @ Lankavuori, "Yarn mountain") outed herself as my secret pal. Thousend thanks to Minna, she has colored my autumn beautifully. This time the parcel contained two skeins of Norwegian Gjestal Cortina Exclusive and one skein SandnesGarn Fritidsgarn. Apart from that, I found a beautiful card, some tee, stitch markers (from "Stash", but I just realized that you can't see them in the picture..), lingonberry soap and Fitting, Soft and Beautiful socks! What a Luxury!

Valmista - FOs

Facebook ja Ravelry + neulominen syövät kaiken aikani. Tässäpä kuvia valmistuneista - niin pukinkonttiin tulevista kuin jo lahjoitetuista.

Using all my spare time in Facebook and in Ravelry, oh, and knitting. Here some pics of FOs, both for Xmas and socks I already gave away.

Hanille Cousteau-pipo. On ollut paljon käytössä. Vuorelman Vedosta, 3mm pyöröllä, 120s.

A Cousteau-hat for G, she loves it. Made of Finnish Veto-yarn of Vuorelma (15% polyamid, 85% wool) , circular 3mm, 120 st.


Cousteau-pipo isukille (tuon ekan piti oikeastaan olla, mutta siitä tuli Hanin onneksi liian pieni). 140 s. Myös Veto. Ihana, ihana petrooli. Tästä pitää vielä joskus saada takki itselle.

A Cousteau-hat for my dad (actually the first one was supposed to be, but it's too small, lucky G). 140 st. Also made of Veto. A lovely shade of petrol, I must have a cardigan of this some time in the future.


Shedir velikullalle. Neljä toistoa viiden sijaan. Tolivottavasti tykkää. Sandnes Garn Alpakka, puikot 3,5 mm.

Sukat ystävälle. koko 42-43, Schachenmayrin Micro tuplana (vihreä ja musta), puikot 4mm (joiden oikeastaan, kiitos SNYni lähettämän puikkomittarin, todettiin olevan kokoa 3,75 mm). 157 g.

Socks for a friend. Size 42-43, yarn is Schachenmayr Micro doubled (green and black), 4mm circular (which I noticed, are actually - thanks to the needle gauge my secret pal sent me - 3,75 mm). 157 grams.


Sukat edellisen vaimokkeelle. Belday home itseraidoittuva sukkalanka n. 60g, 2,5 mm puikot. Tarkkasilmäinen lukija saattaa huomata että jälleen yksi ufo saatettiin menestyksekkäästi ulos kaapista. Siitä toisesta ensi kerralla kun on kuvia.

Molempien sukkien malli "Sockenspass für die ganze Familie"-kirjasta, muuten sinnepäin, paitsi aloitus kärjestä.

Socks for that friends spouse. Belday home sock yarn, approx. 60 grams, 2,5 mm circular. You might even noticed that these socks were once classifies as UFO, but once again I succeeded to get some of them out of house. The other case shall be introduced next time with pics.

Patterns for both socks are from "Sockenspass für die ganze Familie"-book. I pretty much followed the pattern, except that I started both pairs from toe.

Yarn from Göttingen

Vain enkuksi- suomenkielinen versio löytyypi myös.

So finally I'm ready to post in English about some of the yarn shops in Göttingen I visited in September. They are in no special order, except that I liked the first two the most.

1) Wolle Röder, Theaterstr 25
A very nice shop, some Lana Grossa and Regia yarn, lots of brand labeled Wolle Rödel yarn. Lovely personnel and affordable prices. Lots of cotton yarn in sale. Also German knitting magazines. Open until 6.30 pm. I bought some merino for a vest.

2) Wollzauber, Kurze-Geismar-Str. 40
A very nice shop too, indeed, although offering almost only Lana Grossa and Regia yarn. They also had some Rowan yarn, but it was so new that it wasn't even in the shelf yet. I bet that might have changed since September :) Also many special + glitter yarns. I bought some more merino for the said vest and had to check the colors with the yarn I had already bought from Wolle Rödel. The lovely attitude didn't change at all, and I even got some old Lana Grossa magazines (Filati, Merino) for free!

3) Sylvester-Märten, Groner str, upstears of the shop.
Regia sock yarns. Only.

4) Handarbeiten, Gotmarstr, other side of the street, if you find the library.
Small and dark shop, open only something like work days, 11am to 1pm and 3 to 5 pm. Looks like someone collected yarn for some 20 years and is now desperate to get rid of it. Prices poorly visible, all yarn types mixed in their shelves (from floor to ceiling). Sock yarn is mainly of Regia. If you have lots of spare time, you might find plenty of interesting things. I didn't have the time..

5) Karstadt, Groner str 43-47
Regia, effect yarns, lots of buttons. Some other yarns as well. Seemed kind of expensive. Zippers as well.

6)I also saw an advertisement for Wol-Tex @ Lange-Geismar-Str. 42-43.
I only checked downstairs and got depressed by the feeling I just hopped in hennes and mauritz - cloth shop. Maybe they'd have had something upstairs..?

7)In a small import-shop at Gronerstrasse (I think) they had some skeins of wonderfully soft and expensive hand spun wool.

Also: at Lange-Geismar-Straße 49 you can find Perlenpaula if you like beads. I'm not into them, so I can't really evaluate the shop, but they seemed to be always filled with happy customers and they had lots of colors..

And the best part: all these shops are located at the old city center of Göttingen, and you never have to walk more than ten minutes between any of them.

SNY paketti - Finnish SP package

Salainen ystäväni yllätti jälleen! Tällä kertaa paketista löytyi kauniin kortin ja herkullisten tervaleijonien lisäksi puikkomittari (ehdinkin juuri viikonloppuna harmitella sen puutetta), kierroslaskuri sekä täytettä vielä vaatimattomaan neulekirjastooni: "440 more Knitting Stitches vol 3"! Sisältönä pinta- ja värikuviota sekä palmikkoja ja pitsiä! Opus on ensisilmäyksellä juuri minulle sopiva, olen nimittäin alkanut kirjakaupoissa katsella hyvinkin tämän tyyppisiä neulekirjoja - ennemminkin inspiraatiota ja yksityiskohtia antamaan kuin tarkkoja ohjeita seurattaviksi (niitä on internetkin pullollaan). Kiitos!

On täällä neulottukin, lähinnä pipoja, mutta kuvia ei ole. Niistä siis toisella kertaa.

My Finnish Secret Pal surprised me once again! This time the content of the package was: a beautiful card, delicious liquorice, a row counter, a needle gauge and: a book! 440 more Knitting Stitches vol 3! I've been looking for a reference book like this for a while now and this is better than any of those I saw this far! Thanks!

I've even been doing some knitting, mostly hats. But there are no pictures yet, so I blog about them another time.
